SA Sentul G5 – Tristan and Winston – Hydram (Hydraulic Ram Pump)

Hydraulic ram pump, or Hydram, moves water from a lower ground to a higher ground without the use of any electricity or other external sources. It uses natural power of falling or rapidly moving water.

The hydraulic system includes :

  • Water source
  • Drive pipe
  • Hydraulic ram pump
  • Delivery pipe
  • Delivery tank

The hydram itself has 3 main parts:

  • Waste Valve (Spring Check Valve)
  • Delivery Valve (Swing Check Valve)
  • Air Chamber (Pressure Vessel)

The water from the source  travels through the drive pipe into the hydram and goes up into the delivery pipe until it reaches the same level as the water source.

The hydram uses the water hammer (Hydraulic shock) effect to develop pressure that allows a portion of the input water to be lifted to a point higher than where the water originally started. Small amounts of water are repeatedly lifted and eventually fills up the delivery tank.

Water hammer or Hydraulic Shock is a pressure rush caused when a fluid in motion is forced to stop or change direction suddenly.
